WhatsApp marketing in India: API, broadcasts and click-to-WhatsApp ads

WhatsApp is where Indian customers already talk. How to use the Business API, broadcasts and click-to-WhatsApp ads without annoying anyone.

A person holding an Android smartphone

For most Indian businesses, WhatsApp is the channel customers reply to. Used well, it turns enquiries into conversations and conversations into sales. Used badly, it gets your number reported. Here is the responsible version.

WhatsApp Business app vs the Business API

The free app is fine for a single person replying by hand. The Business API (via Meta or a solution provider) is what brands need: multiple agents, automation, chatbots, broadcast campaigns to opted-in customers, CRM integration and a green verified badge. It is paid per conversation, with different rates for marketing, utility and service messages.

Opt-in is not optional

Marketing messages can only go to people who agreed to receive them. Collect opt-ins on your website, forms, checkout, in-store and through ads. Keep a record. Send relevant messages at a sensible frequency and make it easy to stop. Meta monitors quality ratings, and a few blocks can restrict your sending.

Templates and what they are for

Messages you start (not replies) must use templates approved by Meta. Typical uses: order and appointment confirmations, delivery updates, payment reminders, abandoned-cart nudges, new launches and offers to opted-in customers, and re-engagement for lapsed customers. Keep templates personal, short and useful.

Click-to-WhatsApp ads

Ads on Facebook and Instagram can open a WhatsApp chat with your business instead of a form. They work well for real estate, education, clinics, services and D2C brands where a quick conversation closes the sale. Pair them with an automated first reply, a quick qualifying question and a human hand-off during business hours.

Chatbots that help rather than block

A good bot answers the common questions (price, timing, location, availability), collects basic details and books an appointment or hands over to a person. A bad bot traps people in menus. Always offer a way to reach a human.

Connect it to your CRM

Every WhatsApp lead should land in the same CRM as your web and ad leads, with its source. That lets you follow up, measure conversion by channel and build audiences for future campaigns.

Measure what matters

Track replies, qualified conversations, bookings or orders from WhatsApp, and the cost per conversation from ads. Watch quality ratings and opt-out rates as closely as results.

Our WhatsApp marketing service covers API setup, templates, bots, campaigns and CRM integration. Ask us if you are unsure where to start.
